Description
This Jan. 1, 1900, photograph looks northerly from the dome of the California State Capitol building toward the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament at 11th and K streets. The steeple on the immediate right of the photograph is that of the Westminster Presbyterian Church at 13th and K streets. The building between the Cathedral and Westminster is Christian Brothers College at the southwest corner of 12th and K streets. Immediately behind the Cathedral is the mansard-roofed clergy residence that was built in 1889 for $25,000. Construction on the Cathedral had been completed just a decade earlier for a cost of roughly $250,000. It was dedicated on June 30, 1889.
