Description
Dawn Gardner and other students studying in the Rare Book Room, Denison Library, Scripps College; one of a series of photographs for Life magazine. Typed on verso - "THE PROFS AT SCRIPPS PREACH:Think for yourself! Don't regurgitate! Dawn dug into bibliographies in the Scripps Library. Ninteenth century Europe, the Monroe Doctrine, Hegel, Malthus on populations, were just a few of the topics that could pop up in her three-hour humanities exam. Current events too. But Dawn, in love with the fervors and foibles of nineteenth century romanticists, lost herself in de Musset and Heine. Southern California sun, warm and relaxing even through the window, loosened the nerves."
