Description
"Ältestenrat von Mamre mit Geschw. Winkler" ("Mamre's Council of Elders with Brethren Winkler"). A group of elderly women and men of indigenous origin apart from the Winklers who are standing in the second row on the left. The women in the first row are holding what could be hymnbooks. The group is standing in front of a building.
Walther Winkler, born in 1877 in Nazareth, Jamaica. Here he worked as a teacher. In 1908 he married Gertrud Knothe in Niesky. From 1908-11 he worked as a missionary in Suriname. Due to an illness of Mrs. Winkler they had to return to Europe in 1911. From 1913 missionary in South Africa West. From 1913 stationed in Elim.
