Description
Taken on January 1, 1933, this photograph shows a plaque, placed on the same day to commemorate the seventy-fifth anniversary of the opening of the Young American Engine Company Number Six firehouse at 917 Tenth Street. The event was attended by over 2,500 Sacramentans who were treated to both an awkward reenactment of Number Six putting out a fire that kept going out on its own because rain and a birthday cake that turned into ammunition for a food fight. Ultimately, the plaque was laid, coming as a gift from the local lodges of the Native Sons and Native Daughters of the American West.
