Photograph caption dated October 17, 1962 reads "Robert W. Huston, left, American Red Cross volunteer, outlines the need for additional blood donations in the San Fernando Valley to Mrs. George F. Wright and Willard L. Cross at a meeting of community leaders at the Valley Red Cross center in Van Nuys. Huston said the Valley's population growth, new and expanding hospitals, development of unique blood derivatives and changing medical techniques are among the reasons why more than 500 pints of blood are needed each week. He added that additional blood groups and individual donors are required to meet the Valley's demands."
