Description
Bust-length portrait. "E.W" -- in lower right corner. 2010-5156. Born in 1824 in Virginia to a family of Scotch descent. Graduated from State Medical University of St. Louis in 1848. Served during the Mexican war in First Missouri Regiment of Mounted Volunteers under General Sterling Price. Arrived in California in 1849 via overland route. Traveled back and forth for several years before settling in California. In 1867 purchased a part of the Jacinto grant in Glenn County. Acquired more land over years in various part of California and other states. Formed the French-Glenn Cattle Ranch. Ran for governor against Perkins in 1879. Was member of State Board of Agriculture. Died in 1883.
