Description
Margaret Merkel was born in Missouri, where her father, a Confederate soldier in the Civil War, fled from Mississippi, and began a farm. She discusses the sharecroppers on her parents' Missouri farm, and the earliest roots of her desire to become a nurse. She worked as a nurse at Murphy Memorial Hospital and Presbyterian Hospital in Whittier.
