Description: Children in Native American dress and animal costumes play outside. A canoe and teepee complete the scene.
The State Normal School created the Training Department in 1869, in an effort to provide student teachers with practical classroom experience working with children from kindergarten to eighth grade. This classroom scene is a typical representation of children at play in the kindergarten and primary school departments of the Normal School.
