Description
Elevated view of one-story and two-story adobe buildings in the Old Chinatown neighborhood in downtown Los Angeles, California, with horse-drawn wagons in the dirt courtyard. Presumably the buildings were located near or in the Calle de los Negros (also known as "Nigger Alley").
"Views of Los Angeles, Cal., and Vicinity. Published by J.D. Westervelt."--text, printed in margins. "China-town Los Angeles"--text, handwritten note on verso. "Olmsted & Wales, School Books, Stationery, Fancy Goods, Etc., 19 West First St., Widney Block, Los Angeles, Cal."--text, stamp on verso. Title devised by cataloger based on note on verso; date approximated by cataloger based on year that Westervelt first appeared in Los Angeles City directories; Olmsted & Wales were located as a firm at 19 W. 1st Street from 1884 until about 1887. Light green mount.
