Description
A young Contra soldier looks intently at the camera while at El Porvenir Farm, located 2 kilometers from the Honduras-Nicaragua border in June 1983. As he sits on the ground, his Belgian FN FAL assault rifle rests on his lap. He has a pen in his left breast pocket and his olive-green cap reads "FDN," which are the initials of the Nicaraguan Democratic Force (FDN in Spanish). Members of the FDN are informally known as "Contras."
