Description
Shown in 1915 is Sutter's Fort, as viewed from the southeast. Cattle graze just outside the fort's northern wall. The card's inset shows the fort's central building. The annotation - "Sutter's Fort near Sacramento, Where Gold was First Discovered in California" - is incorrect. James Marshall discovered the seminal nugget in Coloma, California, nearly 50 miles to the east of Sacramento.
