View of a street side with 3 buildings visible and a partial 4th building; in front two cars are parked in front; a third car is double parked to the left; a one story building is sandwiched between two taller buildings with angular bay windows on the second floor; the shorter business has a sign on top "SADDLE ROCK"; a man stands by the entrance to the one story business. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "OLD SADDLEROCK CAFE, .'In business since '49,' the sign reads, In 1873, it was called Saddle Rock Oyster House, '53' 2nd st. It is one of the best known historic landmarks, in the early days it was a famous and fashionable gathering place for the city's notables and distinguished visitors. It gained national fame for its political gatherings. For the past 34 years it has been operated by A.S. petrovich..."
