Photograph caption dated July 19, 1986 reads, "A relaxing way to beat the heat became a frightening way to spend the afternoon when chemicals spilled during what was supposed to be a routine pool cleaning procedure at the Hollywood Boys' Club. Paramedic treated and comforted young swimmers, above, who complained of difficulty in breathing and sore eyes after workers spilled a half-cup of a muriatic acid-chlorine mixture while emptying it into a storage tank yesterday. Assistant Fire Chief David Sloan reported that 46 children and three adults were briefly hospitalized for treatment of minor injuries. There was no danger to the neighborhood in the vicinity of Sunset Boulevard and Western Avenue, Sloan said."
