Description
Photograph caption dated December 29, 1961 reads, "Two youthful robbers, about 19, entered the Bottle Bin Liquors, 12916 Vanowen St., North Hollywood, at 9:25 p.m. Thursday and demanded money from the cash register. Owner Phillip Zaniowka above, 51, 4535 Willis Ave., Sherman Oaks, gave the men a $10 bill. The robbers, faces covered with white handkerchiefs, demanded more. They took a wallet from customer Edward J. Edwards, 11919 Vanowen St., North Hollywood, demanded Zaniowka's wife, Gussie, lie on the floor, hit Zaniowka with one of the two .38-caliber revolvers they carried, and escaped with $15. Mrs. George Crane, 12938 Vanowen St., is shown treating Zaniowka's injury. He was treated at Valley Doctors Hospital for a cut on the left temple and released."
