Photograph caption dated July 4, 1961 reads, "School is closed but the library is open at Bassett Street Elementary School, 15756 Bassett St., Van Nuys, from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning Wednesday and ending Aug. 18. Library teacher Roy Ingebrigtsen here supervises some youngsters who began their reading ahead of time. The library is open to any youngster, regardless what school he regularly attends. Many of its books were supplied by the school PTA, which raised $600 for new volumes during the past year."
