Photograph caption dated October 4, 1956 reads, "Workmen clear trees from land through which Los Angeles River channel will be diverted. Channel will parallel freeway extension. Big job of diverting channel is one of many which accompany construction of freeways, including house moving, street improvement, bridge building.
