The Crippled Children's Society was founded in 1926 by the Los Angeles Rotary Club, primarily to serve the needs of children affected with polio. The society established several rehabilitation centers for children throughout Los Angeles to help children with all kinds of disabilities. In 2000, the name was changed to Ability First.
Photograph caption dated May 20, 1960 reads "Lee Bonnell, left, represents Sherman Oaks Kiwanis Club at dedication of new building it helped finance at Rancho del Valle center for crippled children. Holding oversize 'key' to building are, from left, Evelyn Spaulding, general manager of city Department of Social Service; Councilman Lemoine Blanchard and Marilyn Graves, executive director of center at 6530 Winnetka Ave."
