Photograph of John Hance's grave at the Grand Canyon, Arizona, ca.1900-1930. Bronze tablet reads "Capt. John Hance-first locator of Grand Canyon. Arizona Pioneer, trailbuilder, and guide. Died January 6, 1919--aged 80 years." In the center of the gravesite, in the space demarcated by four tall stone markers roughly three to five feet high, a woman in a hat, jacket and skirt stands with her back to the camera. Forest and a post-and-rail fence are visible in the background.
