Description
This circa 1930 photograph depicts the St. John's Lutheran Church at the northeast corner of Seventeenth and L Streets. The St. John's Lutheran congregation originated in 1867 with Pastor Matthias Goethe who began holding services at 9th and K. The growth of the church community prompted a move to a larger location at 12th and K in 1873. Construction on the current location began in 1911 and lasted until 1912. This photograph shows the church two years before the addition of its education wing in 1957.
