Description
Hunters Chisholm and Goodman at Turk Island Salt Works, 1885. From Images of America, Union City, p.35: 'Another salt works was Turk Island Salt Works, located near a small hillock known as Turk Island. With large sections of the bay marsh converted to shallow ponds rich in brine shrimp, flocks of birds would use the ponds during their annual migration. Duck hunting was a popular pastime. Two duck hunting clubs would be founded just after 1900 and would continue until the late 1990s, when encroaching homes would shut them down.'
