Description
Three framed original drawings by San Jose Mercury News cartoonist Scott Willis, and a photocopy of an October 3, 1988 newspaper commentary, "Eating Crow and a Trolley Ticket." Supervisor Rod Diridon Sr. and Mercury News editor Rod Elder made a friendly wager regarding ridership levels of the newly constructed light rail system. Elder lost, resulting in a meal of chili spiced with a chopped up light rail ticket. During these early years of the trainsit system, the Mercury News featured editorial cartoons of Diridon with the light rail. Framed components: a. Diridon with an electric "light rail" train set - passengers not included b. Name the trolley - who is going to ride this thing? c. Auto wrecking truck next to a light rail vehicle - a reference to the numerous collisions during the startup of the system. d. Photocopy of October 3,1988 commentary
