Glen Bell served as Burbank’s police chief from 1982 until his retirement in 1990. Appointed following the death of his predecessor, James Shaffer, the December 5, 1982, Los Angeles Times reported that Bell grew up in Burbank, graduated from Burbank High School, and had served his entire police career in the city, joining the department after serving in the Navy during the Korean War.
