According to the Los Angeles Times, on November 18, 1988 about 5,000 children, ages 8 to 12, from the United States and abroad gathered at Disneyland to celebrate Mickey Mouse's 60th birthday. The cartoon character made his debut on November 18, 1928 in "Steam Boat Willie". Kids from 69 cities were selected by social service agencies and mayors to attend the celebration for free.
