Description
The Grand Central Market is located on the ground floor of the Homer Laughlin Building, 317 S. Broadway, which was the fifth building in the U.S. and the first building west of Chicago to use concrete floors. It was originally built in 1897 and expanded in 1905 under architect Harrison Albright's supervision. It also once housed an office for American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Both the Homer Laughlin Building as well as Grand Central Market, which officially opened in 1917, underwent a major renovation in the 1990's and residential units were added at that time.
