Description
Photograph shows a large crowd of people gathered in front of the San Jose Safe Deposit Bank on June 2, 1914 to see if the donation clock (not shown) would reach $100,000. Two people are carrying pennants with $100,000 on them. On June 2, 1914, the Y.W.C.A. of San Jose started their 10 day building campaign with a goal to raise $100,000. They raised $105,310 which was used to build a three story building. It was opened on May 12, 1916 and was San Jose's first community and recreation center for women. From: Smith, p. 25-27.
