Description
School named by Korean emperor, "Hall For Rearing Useful Men". First missionary school in Korea. Founded in 1886 by American missionary Dr. H.G. Appenzeller. First missionary sent to Korea by Board of Foreign Missions of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He served for almost 20 years in Korea. Dr. Appenzeller died in attempting to rescue a young Korean girl from a sinking steamship.
