The following description was submitted by an outside party. The views expressed are the individual’s own and are not representative of the Museum of Ventura County. [User contributed description] The video was filmed at Teto's Produce in Oxnard. In the video, the viewer can see that a fruit stand employee is being harassed by a client who refuses to wear his mask in the small shop. The fruit stand has a policy that requires patrons/customers to wear masks to ensure everyone's safety, particularly that of its employees, during the pandemic. When my family arrived at the stand to buy fruit, we saw a tall male customer towering over the petite female employee as she held two boxes of strawberries and quietly/calmly stood her ground by refusing to provide service until the customer wore a mask. My family and I stepped in to help the girl and asked the customer several times to either wear a mask or leave. Later, the girl's mother arrived and shared that the family had just lost a loved one to COVID19 and that they take the virus seriously. She also mentioned that her daughter is harassed in this way on a daily basis, by customers who refuse to wear a mask. The belligerent customer left after we threatened to call police for harassing the young woman at the fruit stand.
