Description
Black and white lantern slide featuring dwellings on the mountains in Kuling (Lushan), a mountain resort area in Jiangxi, southern China favoured by missionaries. The district was established in the late nineteenth century as a resort for European and American travellers and was designed with colonial style architecture. This slide comes from a collection held by the Church of Scotland and generated by the medical missionary Charles Somerville, who worked for the London Missionary Society in Hankou from 1904 to 1914.
