Jacob Henry "Buddy" Baer was born on June 11, 1915. He was a professional heavyweight boxer, the younger brother of boxing heavyweight champion and actor Max Baer, and the uncle of actor Max Baer, Jr. In the boxing ring, Baer had 51 knockouts and 7 losses. His claim to fame was knocking legendary boxer Joe Louis out of the ring in a fight that Louis would later go on to win. Baer appeared in several films and television series throughout his career. He died on July 18, 1986. Photograph caption dated July 25, 1956 reads "Jacob H. 'Buddy' Baer, 41, former heavyweight boxer turned actor, confers with attorney N. E. Youngblood in Van Nuys Municipal Court today where he went on trial on three counts of misdemeanor child molestation and one of vagrancy. Baer pleaded innocent at arraignment on July 3. Selection of jury began after noon recess." Baer was later acquitted on one charge and the others were dismissed.
