Don Nelson and Pete Conroy helped defeat proposition 64 by registering voters, 1986." Sponsored by Lyndon LaRouche, this proposition would have restored AIDS to the list of communicable diseases. Gay rights activists and health professionals feared that this legislation would hurt AIDs treatment result in job discrimination and force quarantine of AIDS patients.
