This is a photograph of Fr. Kennedy speaking with an elderly Chinese woman and attempting to "talk her into coming to Christmas Mass." She is squatting on something and wears a wide rimmed straw hat. Born in New York, Fr. Kennedy came to Maryknoll in 1939, after studying Mechanical Engineering and working as a messenger for an insurance company. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1948. His first overseas assignment was to Wuchow, China where he studied Cantonese for a year in Tan Chuk. He was arrested and imprisoned by the Chinese in 1950 and released in 1951. He went to the Philippines in 1952 and began work in the Lipa Diocese.
