Description
A young boy and two women wear Parisian equestrian attire. The woman facing the viewer wears white trousers underneath a long, full, plum-colored riding dress. The bodice of the dress has a masculine style with a buttoned waistline and black velvet lapels which lie open to reveal a white embroidered and buttoned shirtwaist and vest. The outfit has drop-shoulder gigot sleeves, very full at the top and snug below the elbow. The blouse has wide embroidered cuffs. She wears a very high collar and a snugly fitted cravat in red and blue, with an oval pin. Her black top hat has a trailing veil. She wears black shoes, a small ring on her forefinger, and carries a riding crop. A long black chain or cord with a square gold object dangles below her waist; it may be a lorgnette. The woman facing away from the viewer wears a similar outfit in powder blue, to show the styling of the back. The jacket has a wide collar with a point at the back, and the peplum also comes to a point at the center back, with buttons at the waist. Between the women stands a young boy in his riding outfit. He wears a short, waist-length blue jacket with wide lapels and a velvet collar, open to reveal a green waistcoat over a white ruffled shirt. He has a rose pink cravat tried over a high ruffled collar. He wears white trousers strapped beneath his black boots. His dark green "chapeau napolitain" with its tall square crown and a bill, is strapped beneath his chin, and he carries a riding crop, and wears yellow gloves.
