Description
It is the third largest stupa in Polonnaruwa. The signage informs the visitor that "Chronicles mention that Rupavati, the Queen of Parakramabahu the Great (1153-1186 AC), who reigned from the capital of Polonnaruwa, had built the Pabalu Vehera. The name Pabalu meaning beads may have been attached to the name of the monastic complex, owing to the discovery of a large cache of beads in the vicinity. Around the dagoba are a number of image houses [with Buddha statues] in different postures. The largest image house has an image of the reclining Buddha."
