Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1889-1989 On Wednesdays, Sammy Lee went to Pasadena's Brookside Pool to practice. That was the only day "non-whites" could use the pool. The next day, Lee remembers, "the pool was emptied after we used it, and fresh water was brought in." After attending Occidental College, than medical school at USC, the Lee won gold medals in platform diving in 1948 and 1952, becoming the first Korean-American (and first Asian-American) to win Olympic gold. Photo dated: June 15, 1940.
