Photograph was edited for publication purposes In January, 1949, more than half an inch of snow covered the Civic Center in Downtown Los Angeles. In the San Fernando Valley, almost a foot of snow accumulated over three days. Photograph caption dated January 12, 1949 reads "Snow fights, such as this one shown, were common sights during the storm. Most of these boys are too young to remember the big snow of 1932, so the excitement of pitching snowballs on Valley streets was a first-time thrill."
