Description
Three chariots blaze their way past the California State Fair grandstand in this May 1927 photograph. Each pulled by four horses, the chariots are pushing their way south along the west stretch of the track. The race was part of the 3-day Sacramento ’49 Roundup, a rodeo event that brought many of the American West’s best horsemen to the Capital City. The chariot event consisted of four different teams, each competing for a cash prize of $1,000. In the background is the Fair’s Agricultural Building.
