Description
The Ritz Motel at 2228 Auburn Boulevard, also known at the U.S. Route 40, was one of many lodges - the Rolling Green, Town and Country and Pacific - that lined the pre-U.S. 80 stretch between Sacramento and Reno. With the advent of the super freeway, the scorned Ritz fell into connection with prostitution and murder, only to be condemned and demolished in the early 2000s, under the auspices of the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency. It is pictured here in 1952.
