Description
Front: Photograph of the Congregational Church. According to notes on the reverse of the photograph, the church was located at the corner of California Street and Pasadena Avenue. Built in 1886, it would eventually become Neighborhood Church. Along the bottom edge of the photograph is written "CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH" in white. In the lower right corner is a stamp for Hill photography, and in white the date "1895". The church was built sometime around 1886, but was not dedicated until 1891. Reverse: Written in ink along the top: "Property of the Pasadena Historical Society / 1st Congregational Church_ Photo 1895 / Corner California Street and Pasadena Avenue_". Affixed to the back is a typed label which reads "First Congregational Church / Corner Pasadena Avenue and / California Street, Taken in / 1895, -the year of the begin- / ning of pastorate of Rev. / Herbert W. Lathe and the / year following the close of / the pastorate of Rev Dexter D. Hill. / A.L.H." Written in ink at the bottom of the backside is "Clem Inskeep has a copy neg of this #9 5/1/61". On the reverse of a copy of the photograph is a label which reads: "1st Congregational / became Neighborhood Church / built 1886 / California & Pasadena Sts."
