Photograph article dated July 24, 1954 partially reads, "The Defense Department finally caught up with Pfc. Louis D. Hahaley [sic], 42, of 11529 Kelowna St., San Fernando, nine years late. Opening a neat, small package he received through mails, Lou found the coveted Bronze Star medal awarded to him in 1945 for valor on the island of Luzon in ground action against the enemy during World War II... Employed as a sign painter, Lou, despite his medals, remains modest. But he appeared quite pleased about the Bronze Medal reaching him after all these years." Photograph caption reads, "Never too late - Holding proudly in his left hand the coveted Bronze Star medal for valor in action during the last war is Lou Mahaley of San Fernando. Lou added his new acquired medal, just arrived from the War Department, nine years late, to the display case he holds in his right hand."
