Description
Image of two African American men and two bull dogs walking down a street while African American spectators including women, children, and a police officer look on from the sidewalk and building windows, the men are wearing costumes decorated with playing cards and horseshoes and have top hats, gloves, canes, large diamond tie pins, and rose boutonnieres, and one man holds a $50 dollar bill in his hand; with a date sheet for a November 26, [1885], show at the Fulton Opera House in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, pasted on poster.
Probable date based on month and day in date sheet and general history of company; Lester and Allen's Minstrels performed from around 1884 until 1887. "Central / Lith & Eng. Co. / Chicago."--text, bottom left of image. "Fulton / Opera House / Lancaster. / One Night Only, Thanksgiving, / Thursday Nov. 26 / The Greatest Dialect Show on Earth!"--text, date sheet.
