Photograph of a group about 20 Acoma Indians standing in front of the outdoor altar at the Fiesta de San Esteban (Saint Stephen), Acoma Pueblo, 1886. The crowd faces the altar which is barely visible above their heads. Large bushes or small trees stand behind the altar. Most of the men wear cloths around their heads, while some of the women wear shawls or blankets over their heads and backs. One of the adobe buildings of the Pueblo is visible in the background. At least three people are on the roof.
