Photograph caption dated June 5, 1959 reads "Mary Aguilera has been selected by Governor Brown for state entry to receive 1958 U.S. Medal for Bravery. In February last year Mary couldn't swim but nevertheless saved a little boy from drowning in Pacoima Wash. She is now taking swimming lessons." Mary is from San Fernando.
