Title supplied by cataloger. Isaias W. Hellman immigrated to Los Angeles in 1859, where he became a successful businessman, banker, oil, and real estate investor. He was also a partner in the creation and development of Boyle Heights. Hellman was Jewish and donated a large parcel of land to the Methodist Episcopal Church for the creation of the University of Southern California. Hellman moved to San Francisco in 1891 and lived there until his death in 1920. Portrait of Isaias W. Hellman (1842-1920) by Clark Hobart.
