This photograph shows a fiery Machinery Hall and its 150-foot tower on the evening of May 22, 1931, at the California State Fairgrounds, 2751 Stockton Blvd. The total cost of the blaze was $100,000. The fire's glow could be seen from the city's suburbs and attracted a total of five engine companies and chemical units.
