Portrait of Jacobus Cornelius Kapteyn taken in the Mount Wilson 'Monastery.' Photograph sleeve is dated 1919. Kapteyn is seated in a wooden Mission-style chair with fabric-covered cushions. He is wearing a suit, with cuff links. Behind him are bookshelves with books. The Monastery was a dormitory for visiting scientists at Mount Wilson Observatory.
