Presidential Candidate Ángel Aníbal Guevara's is hugged by an old man during a campaign rally in Ciudad Vieja, department of Sacatepéquez. On the left of the image is Guevara's running mate Ramiro Ponce. On March 8, 1982 Guevara won the presidential election although electoral fraud was claimed by other parties. A military coup prevented Guevara from assuming power and installed a three-man junta headed by General Efraín Ríos Montt.
