Description
Nopel Grocery Store located at 1242 Esplanade, Chico- between E. 2nd Ave and E. 3rd Ave. Zumwalt and Miller were former owners. Photo was probably taken about WWI. Shows an old watering trough out front. The Nopel family moved in upstairs when they returned to Chico in 1919. The Nopel's purchased the house on the right from Mrs. Meybern in 1923 for their residence just before John (Jack) Sr. went to Sanitarium with poor health at Colfax, Calif., Upstairs had 2 bedrooms and 1 bath, kitchen, dining room, living room, and big screened back porch. The building burned down in the mid 1960s- home on the right still stands, 1230 Esplanade
