Description
“An outschool is a settlement in the reserve 10 or 20 miles from the main station where a Christian teacher and dispenser gathers a little company of interested or needy folk, wins their confidence by friendship, their interest by his teaching and their admiration by his Christian home life, and so brings them to Christ. To these, the Christian gospel is preached, with the conversion of some & setting up of a village church.” Exterior view showing a large crowd gathering near a mission worker at a trestle table, probably acting as a dispensary during a visit by Dr Irvine to one of the satellite schools. ❧ Image from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the early years of the Chogoria mission, established near Mt Kenya in 1922 and run by Dr Irvine, ministering to the Chuka and Mwimbi peoples.
