Photograph caption dated August 30, 1961 reads, "Strike Authorization Voted -- Members of United Auto Workers Local 646 at General Motors plant, 8000 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys, cast ballots in strike authorization vote Tuesday and early today. According to union, 1,900 men voted, with 93.8 per cent of them in favor of striking, if need be, to win their contract demands from GM. Similar strike authorization votes have been held at other GM, Ford and Chrysler plants throughout nation. Voting here is Roman Baca, 19500 Hart St., Reseda, while others wait their turn."
