Image chamber (patimāghara) housing one of five colossal, historic standing Buddha statues in Sri Lanka. The chamber measures 7 X 14 meters and has three free sides and an ambulatory. The inner and outer doors were at the center of the eastern walls. A vaulted roof may have been included in the original structure. The statue is carved out of the living granite rock and is 11.36 meters high from the double lotus pedestal to the top of the head, and in samabhanga posture. The Buddha statue has the typical elongated earlobes. See discussion of other examples at Räsvehera (Sāssvruwa), Maligawila and Buduruwagala.
